Phase by phase
When to run it
- You play five out and want a first action that is easy to teach.
- Your wings are better moving downhill than standing still.
- You want a set that makes help defenders choose.
Coaching points
- The pin-down screener holds contact until the cutter has used him.
- The handoff is a pass, not a pitch. Make eye contact first.
- The passer relocates after the handoff. Standing still is how you lose spacing.
Counters
- Defense: Switch the handoff
- Answer: The big slips to the rim.
- Defense: Hard hedge on the handoff
- Answer: Reject the handoff and drive the other way.
