How we test · evidence plan
We measure it before we claim it
Film tagging has to clear four lines on real phone-recorded games before we sell it as working. Nothing below has been measured yet. This is the plan, and we will publish the results.
The pass lines
Four lines tagging has to clear
Status as of October 2026
90%+
Precision on possessions and shots
Of the possessions and shots ClinIQ tags, at least 9 in 10 must be right when a coach checks them.
70%+
Precision on ball screens
Screens are harder to see from one phone. At least 7 in 10 ball-screen tags must be right.
< 15 min
Coach time per game
Confirming a whole game's tags must take a coach under 15 minutes, or it is not saving anyone time.
< 50%
Cost under half the price
What it costs us to process a game must be under half of what we charge for it, so the price can hold.
If tagging misses a line, it stays out of launch. The full-game breakdown film add-on ($15 a game, Coming 2027) opens only after it clears all four. These are targets, not results.
The method
How the test runs
Hand-labelled games first, then real teams in concierge pilots during the spring and summer 2027 club season.
- 1
Label real games by hand
Phone-recorded games from several gyms, labelled by hand: every possession, shot, rebound, turnover and ball screen, and the set names from the team's own playbook.
- 2
Score ClinIQ's tags against them
Precision (how many tags are right) and recall (how many real events it found), for each kind of tag. Possessions, shots and screens are scored separately.
- 3
Time the coach
We time how long a coach takes to confirm, fix or reject a game's tags in the review queue.
- 4
Count the cost per game
Processing and storage for one recorded game, compared with what we charge for it.
- 5
Concierge pilots, spring 2027
Four-week pilots with real teams during the spring and summer 2027 club season. We tag one game by hand, and every ClinIQ tag is checked against what the coach confirms.
- 6
Publish results per team
After the pilots we publish what we measured, team by team, including the misses. A gym, a camera angle and a coach's terms change the result, so one average would hide too much.
Until it is measured
What we will not claim
Until the results are in, ClinIQ shows a confidence label on every tag and a coach confirms each one.
- An accuracy percentage for ClinIQ tagging.
- That ClinIQ breaks down a full game on its own.
- Automatic full-game stats, or that it replaces your stat keeper.
- Player tracking from one phone at the far end of the gym.
- That ClinIQ is more accurate than another tool.
Common questions
Has Hoops ClinIQ published accuracy numbers?
No. We have not measured tagging on real teams yet, so there is no number to publish. Results come out per team after the spring 2027 pilots.
What do you measure before claiming film tagging works?
Precision on possessions and shots (at least 90%), precision on ball screens (at least 70%), coach confirmation time (under 15 minutes a game) and cost (under half the price). If tagging misses a line, it stays out of launch.
Why per team and not one overall number?
A gym, a camera angle and a coach's play names change the result. A per-team result tells a coach what to expect in a gym like theirs.
What does ClinIQ show until then?
Every tag carries a confidence label, low-confidence tags wait in a review queue, and a coach confirms each tag before it counts.
